Aims and Objectives of the Qualification:

The LAO Level 3 Awareness of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 provides learners with the understanding and knowledge required to work with individuals who have mental capacity issues. The legislation was introduced in England and Wales in 2007 to provide a framework for making decisions on behalf of others. The qualification provides learners with what to do if they are involved in the care, treatment or support of people aged 16 and over, who may lack capacity to make decisions. The qualification provides the learning and knowledge required to aid decision making and provides the knowledge and understanding of the protection that is available to care workers under the act.
